The 8th graders have started a new chapter in math class. They are studying area of 2 dimensional figures, surface area and volume of 3 dimensional figures, and precision and significant digits.
7th graders are continuing their study of percents, fractions, and decimals, and adding to that learning about ratios, rates, proportions, and scale drawings.
Be sure to check our calendar to learn when testing will occur.
Students will be having individual meetings this week, Thursday and Friday, to discuss the focus (topic) areas they are planning to include in the geography report. There will be some class time given this week to work on note cards. Students should be reading a source and taking notes every couple of days for sure. The goal is to have a minimum of 30 cards done by the end of the month.
Please send note cards (index) to school if you did not do so at the beginning of the year.
Chapter 8 test is this Friday. This chapter on protists and fungi does require a fair amount of memorizing. I encourage starting several days in advance. We had a good time today watching video clips of some of the organisms we have been studying. Watching an amoeba move and eat is always fascinating!
Happy New Year and I hope you had a blessed Christmas celebration. It is time for us to hit the ground running as we start this year's geography fair. Students will receive the introductory letter and the due dates for the project. Please be sure to post this information in a prominent place at home.
Our trip to the Fargo Public Library will be Wednesday, January 11th. Please be sure to bring your library card.
A week or so before a due date, specific details will be posted.
Please call with any questions.
After vacation, students will no longer be allowed to carry their backpacks to each class. Backpacks need to be unpacked and stored in lockers during the day. Also, all students will need an outdoor coat each day for recess. Hats, mittens, etc. are strongly encouraged. If a student wants to play in the snow, he/she will also need snow pants and boots.
Now that we've gotten snow, the ski trip scheduled for Friday, January 13, looks like a reality!
Ski trip forms were sent home before break and need to be returned with money by Friday, January 6. If you are willing to drive and take students other than your own, please let Mrs. Pulst know. A $5 per student gas stipend will be paid to each driver to help offset the cost.
Wow, students have been working hard on their pro-life essays this past week! We really have some talented writers here at Grace! The final drafts are due Tuesday. Winners are usually announced before Christmas break. After the final drafts are in, 8th graders will be designing their own wiki pages on the parts of speech while 7th graders will be studying nouns.
Congratulations to the 7th and 8th graders for winning the Fill-the-Dome contest each of the 3 weeks at Grace! What great role models they are!
Our school's holiday project is a drive to collect mittens, gloves, hats, scarves, and even warm socks for new refugees in the F-M area. Donations may be hung on the Christmas tree in the entryway. Many, many thanks to you parents for all of your support in these two worthwhile projects!
Today we helped the office with a mass mailing, our first service project for the year. On Wednesday, Dec. 21, we are signed up at 10 Fargo stores to ring bells for the Salvation Army. Would you please consider helping us with driving and chaperoning? This is the one project that we can't do without parental involvement. The shift we have is from 10:00-12:30 on the 21st, which is our last day of school before Christmas vacation. The students have been asking if we can go bell-ringing again this year, so they are excited. Plus it's a terrific opportunity for them to give back to the community. Please let Mrs. Pulst know if you are able to help us that day. Thank you.
The 6th, 7th, and 8th graders will be hosting a video game in the language arts classroom on Saturday. In addition, we will be offering tattoos (temporary, of course!) and face painting in the hallway. All proceeds from these 3 activities will go to our class trip funds. We need students to staff these 3 for 1-hour shifts: from 3-4:00, 4-5:00, and 5-6:10 (when we've cleaned up). If your student could work a shift, we would like them to sign up in the language arts classroom as soon as possible.
